Exercise
How would I improve the “Investigate” value tool that Celonis offers with all its dashboards?
How would I improve the Investigate value tool that Celonis offers with all its dashboards?
Focusing on the Procurement demo, I applied surface level Information Design improvements that will have positive impact on the Investigate CTA.

Immediately, there are a couple of visual problems I noticed with the current dashboard.

Unclear and inconsistent title hierarchy across page
Unclear that there’s a 3-column layout to the Procurement view
Filter card at a similar hierarchy to other cards
Unclear what insight the user is supposed to take away from this diagram
The above Bar chart’s parameters (Target, Best In Class) not visible in Line chart, despite being the same data
Missed opportunity to connect “Investigate” CTA action with “Potential” datapoint above
“Potential” and “Realized” data treated equally to regular data, despite being tied to UX actions
My analysis:
Improving the Investigate UX’s visibility, by linking the CTA with its datapoint, will increase the feature’s value proposition and utilization—all while improving the dashboard’s overall cohesion.

One main section, with cards and sub-cards
One card for each area of data, with improved hierarchy
Filter card hierarchy reduced
Toggle UI for different graph views
Changed iconography for faster recognition and understanding
Iconography converts from line to fill variants when target is achieved
Changed colour legend and applied same colour and line/dashed scheme to line chart
Linked CTA with Potential / Realized Value in one card
Applied a colour and stroke/fill to show empty and complete states
